Pieter Engels (Rosmalen, 1938 – Amsterdam, 2019)
During the 1960s Engels was among the most important and most successful artists in the Netherlands. He was a friend of Willem de Ridder; they studied at the same academy. Many of his early works are related to Fluxus.
In 1964 Pieter Engels founded the Engels Products Organization (EPO). His sales manager was Simon Es (Engels’ alter ego). A gallery on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam served as a ‘showroom’ where people could order ‘repaired furniture’ and ‘wonder events’. In 2006 the early works of Pieter Engels were shown at Galerie A.
