Cello sonata

This is Moorman in Asolo, Italy. In 1977 she performed Cello Sonata, an early piece by the
Japanese composer Mieko Shiomi. Moorman dangled a cello from a rope while seated on a
windowsill of a five hundred year old clock tower.
Shiomi wrote me, ‘I think I sent the score to Charlotte without making a copy. According to
my memory the score should be something like this. Hang a cello with a rod and rope in a
fishing style, while playing the pre-recorded sound of this sustained chord.’
The beautiful photograph was taken by Gianni Bellini.
