Multiples

Multiples are works of art produced in editions. During the 60’s, publishing such multiples was associated with a certain idealism: everyone should have access to affordable art. Unique works from artists such as Joseph Beuys, Keith Haring and Mike Kelley can be very costly. Their multiples on the other hand tend to be relatively low-priced, even as the artists pass away and prices increase.
Nowadays multiples have grown into an important medium represented in important collections of large museums like the MoMa in New York. Some multiples are hand-made, which results in a series of copies that can still be dissimilar. Some objects by Jonathan Meese are exemplary for this; though numbered, each one is an unique object itself.
The collection of Galerie A also contains a large number of artists’ vinyl records and DVDs. For the time being, they are listed under ‘multiples’.
