About Vito Acconci

In January 1972 a slope was constructed in the Sonnabend Gallery, New York, which ran from the middle of the empty gallery space to the back wall.

Between the 15th and the 29th of January, Vito Acconci gave several performances there like: Seedbed. While lying under the newly made floor, he fantasized about the visitors walking on it; he masturbated and could speak to them through a microphone.

A sketchbook containing photographs and text collages was published by Edition Hossmann in Hamburg in 1973 in an edition of 250 numbered and signed copies:

Behavior Fields – Transaction Arenas – Training Grounds – Maneuver Positions / Notes on the development of a show.
