Guglielmo Achille Cavellini

Guglielmo Achille Cavellini was once a respected art collector. He owned
works by artists like Alberto Burri, Jean Dubuffet, Asger Jorn and Roberto
Matta. Various works from his collection were included in the first
documenta in Kassel (1955).
At a certain moment, Cavellini felt the need to start making art. With his
colourful collages and objects in Pop Art style, he established quite a name
for himself from 1965 onward in Italy.
Then, as a mail-art and performance artist, Cavellini became really
well-known. In the nineteen seventies and eighties he corresponded with
people all over the world.
Every now and then Galerie A also received mail from Cavellini, for example
the following image ‘operation round-trip N.776’ (1978). Galerie A had sent
him an invitation and Cavellini returned the envelope as a work of art: he
had added self-designed stamps.
Gugliemo Achille Cavellini, he also called himself GAC and had added the
dates 1914-2014 to those initials, passed away in 1990.
