George Brecht
George Brecht (August 27, 1926 – December 5, 2008), was an American avant-garde composer and conceptual artist. He was a member of Fluxus. Around 1960 George Brecht wrote the first texts for which he used the term ‘event’. He published them on offset cards – early examples of conceptual art – and sent them to friends and institutes. It was George Maciunas’ idea to put them together in a box and offer them as a Fluxus edition. In 1963 Brecht published the first V TRE newspaper; after he had met Maciunas it became the official Fluxus newspaper. In 2005 Galerie A published a catalogue raisonné on Brecht’s editions, a collaboration with Edizioni Francesco Conz in Verona.
