Galerie A – August 2020

Galerie A, August 2020
4 weeks / 4 presentations
Galerie A is organising four special exhibitions in August. These are historic presentations with works many of which have not been publicly displayed before.
THIS WAY BROUWN – the photos
August 3-10

In 1971 This Way Brouwn 25-2-61/26-2-61 was published by Verlag Gebr. König. However, the first This Way Brouwn works originated in 1964; years before this publication. Igno Cuypers was present at the time and kept photographic journal.
Günter Brus – Die Einladung
August 10-17

Between 1967 and 2015 the Wiener Aktionist, illustrator and writer Günter Brus designed almost all of the invitations for his Aktionen and exhibitions himself. He designed no less than 15 different flyers for a Direct Art Happening in 1967. They were printed in small editions via a spirit duplication process. Brus drew most of his designs using pencils, after which offset prints were made. One of the largest collections of Brus’ invitations, no less than a hundred and forty works, can be seen at the Hemonylaan 6a starting on August 10.
Dear Harry – 100 artists’ letters
August 17-24

For the duration of one year Galerie A will be posting weekly stories on www.multiples.nl/stories. These are special stories on artists and people from the art world that Galerie A has worked (or eventually has not worked) with in the past. Many of these stories are accompanied by letters sent by the artists. A hundred of these letters and their anecdotes can be seen at the exhibition from the 17th of August. A few names: Carl Andre, John Armleder, Daniel Buren, Ulises Carrión, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Isa Genzken, Richard Hamilton, Dorothy Iannone, Yayoi Kusama, Gerhard Richter, Daniel Spoerri, Ben Vautier, Bernar Venet, herman de vries, Lawrence Weiner.
VINTAGE – performance photography
August 24-31

Not the large, colourful, limited edition signed prints that can be seen on many photography fairs. Instead: (mostly) vintage-prints of performances and temporary installations; often in black and white and no larger than A4 size. A few names: Marina Abramović, Joseph Beuys, Nicola De Maria, Gilbert & George, Hans Haacke, Matthias Herrmann, Honeysuckle Divine, Kirsten Justesen, Anselm Kiefer, Jürgen Klauke, Yves Klein (see image), Nam June Paik/Charlotte Moorman, Annie Sprinkle, Jean Tinguely, Ulay.
